I’m a little teapot February 7, 2009

photo2I came home last night to a package on the dining table. A 1960s vintage teapot from Czechoslovakia, found in the UK! And it comes with its very own patent number for its ‘unusual swivel lid’! I almost couldn’t sleep last night because I couldn’t wait to have tea. From the beautiful teapot in my beautiful teacups.

The huddy asked if I wanted it to be kept under wraps until the actual day. I didn’t, of course. It’s too long a wait. So today, we had Spice Imperial tea and butter pound cake for afternoon tea. The living room smelt lovely of orange and cloves, and I got to pour tea many many times from the teapot. And we kept singing “I’m a little teapot, short and stout, here is my handle, here is my spout” to the clueless Missy Raeann.

I love my life with my doting huddy, my little missy, my ditsy doggie. And my pretty teapot. And teacups.

Pretty pregger Allie came visiting and brought along with her some really hearty laughter and a kaleidoscope of colours bunched up prettily in a simple bouquet. They now sit merrily in a tall vase on the dining table, all summery and cheery. A reminder of how sweet everything can be.

Today, we brought Missy Raeann out for lunch, then coffee (sigh, decaf for me) at the library. Other than having to breastfeed her twice, she was very much the pleasant baby, wide-eyed at the beginning, then winky-sleepy. We are lapping up the attention she is getting with her full head of hair, which is getting browner by the day. Rather cool, if I may say.

I watched her twitch her eyelids as she fell into deep sleep in my arms. Then I cuddled her closer, my nursing cover as her blanket, the chatter nearby as her white noise comfort. I never thought I would be able to spend an afternoon out at such a languid pace – sipping latte, reading, with the little missy with me.

This is my shiny new life. As a very merry mommy.

afternoon delight September 19, 2007

i’m feeling lark-y. no marking today, few lessons tomorrow. so we had afternoon tea, just the way we like it :: s-l-o-w. i had a blueberry brownie cheesecake, which was good, though not heavenly. today’s brew was french vanilla bean, flat white. probably one of the best, most fragrant brew we had in a long time, i couldn’t decide whether to take in deep rapturous breaths, or just go easy on the theatrics. i’m so recharged i want to end all my sentences with exclamation marks and dot my i-s with big fat circles. it was a light brew, and i’m loving the aftertaste that lingers, and tingles just a little. the vanilla confetti wonder – how can something so ugly taste so good, smell so sweet? it seems almost all right to go back home for a fresh cup of vanilla black tea, stirred with our last vanilla pod. and i had two latte tim tams. nothing a good dose of sugar can’t do. i think i’m all dotty again.

the saeco coffee machine is in. no more 3-in-1 nescafe, frothless instant coffee. i get a feeling i wont sleep in this weekend because i want to be up brewing a latte and letting the aroma waft into the room. to be served with provence granny scone for me and ham and eggs for him. we must watch the calories. that night, i caught him digging happily into the dreyers’ chocolate cake ice-cream when he was on MC. calcium, he said.
