this reminds me of the shoe game shane and jo played with us on our wedding night. sweet.

1. Who eats more?
i’m on project downsize – so it’s now me 1/2 portion, he 1 and 1/2.

when it comes to dessert, project downsize is put on hold – so me 1 and 1/10 portion, he 9/10.

2. Who said “I love you” first?
he, on the phone, voice disguised. i’ve been holding back the three words, so that i can tell people he said it first.

3. Who is the morning person?
him. though i suspect it’s because i have a stronger bladder and can stay in bed longer.

4. Who sings better?
i’ll be shameless here:: we can both hold our tunes pretty fine.

5. Who’s older?
him – two years (actually one year nine months).

6. Who’s smarter?
streetwise, general knowledge-wise, him.

academic-wise, the papers side with me.

7. Whose temper is worse?
not me!

8. Who does the laundry?
me minister of laundry – the full works of washing, hanging, folding and ironing (i’m so thankful we work from home now – no more sunday ironing!)

he’s minister of floor and furniture – vacuum and mop and dust (i’ve promised him to dust my own country knickknacks which more than pepper the house. it’s the only promise i’ve broken to him, i promise!)

9. Who does the dishes?
mostly me, because i cant stand dishes becoming so stubbornly encrusted that i have to scrub instead of wash them.

10. Who sleeps on the right side of the bed?
me always. no idea why. we swopped sides once and couldnt sleep.

11. Whose feet are bigger?
i’m size 4. i’ll flip if his feet are smaller than mine!

12. Whose hair is longer?
me. we both cant stand long hair on guys.

13. Who’s better with the computer?
him him him.

14. Do you have pets?
latte! our 11 eleven months old shetland sheepdog. my son, his dog.

15. Who pays the bills?
the joint account.

16. Who cooks dinner?
we take turns. we have our own cooking craving at different times, so it all works out fine.

but we make sure we have equal chances of cooking for latte. in case he favours one over the other. :p

17. Who drives when you are together?
the mrt driver.

18. Who pays when you go out to dinner?
sign with my citibank dividend card (2% rebate for dining!), pay with joint account.

19. Who’s the most stubborn?
me. i love and i hate, few in-betweens. and it’s hard to change my mind.

20. Who is the first one to admit when they’re wrong?
both, i think.

21. Whose family do you see more?
quite the same, but probably his a little more since they’re nearer.

22. Who named your pet?
me. named after his favourite drink.

23. Who kissed who first?
him. unforgettable first.

24. Who asked who out?
him. for budak pantai concert. but i made hints. :)

#25 is missing.

26. Who’s more sensitive?
he’s surprisingly sensitive for a guy, very much like a manly uncle agony. it’s a tie probably.

27. Who’s taller?
him – by 11 centimetres.

28. Who has more friends?
me. but he’s my best friend.

29. Who has more siblings?
we both have one sibling each.

30. Who wears the pants in the relationship?
he’s the man. i love how i can trust him to make the decisions knowing they’ll always be wise. he puts me first without saying it, unconditionally. i go to bed blissfully every night, knowing i share my life with this man who makes everything alright and confetti-like.

it wasnt a good year. i ended my first relationship, crushed and battled. i developed a chronic cough that exempted me from the annual NAPFA test, and to my dismay, many band practices too since i cant hold a tune without hacking. but it was also the year i learnt to embrace solitude. i found myself. a new me that could only be better.

tagged by vale, my songs of eighteen in nineteen ninety-nine.

1. I’m already taken by Steve Wariner
i might just be the youngest country fan on gold 90.5 fm then. every sunday morning at ten, i’ll be glued to the radio. the tunes are seldom catchy, but the lyrics are charming. cute really. this is my favourite.

Artist/Band: Wariner Steve
Lyrics for Song: I’m Already Taken
Lyrics for Album: Two Teardrops
(Terry Ryan/Steve Wariner)

My little third grade hand wrote I love you
On a note of yellow paper
And sent it to the front of the row to a little blonde-haired girl
The blonde-haired girl just opened it and read it to herself
I was so embarrassed when she turned around and said

I’m already taken
You spoke up too late
I love somebody else
So you’ll just have to wait

The years flew by so quickly
And there we were in junior high
I realized that I still loved her so
So I called her up and told her exactly how I felt
Then she said there’s something that you really ought to know

I’m already taken
You spoke up too late
I love somebody else
So you’ll just have to wait

So wait I did and never changed my love for that little blonde-haired girl
Who’s now the mother of our little blonde-haired boy
Who’s to our hearts so close
I hate to think how fast he’s growing up
Last night I overheard them as she tucked him into bed
He said, Mommy will you marry me
And this is what she said

I’m already taken
You spoke up too late
I love your daddy son
So you’ll just have to wait

I’m already taken
You spoke up too late
I love your daddy son
So you’ll just have to wait

2. I Love You by Martina McBride
another country hit, but a commercialised one. overplayed, but oh so cute. it actually made me smile.

3. Baby, dont you break my heart slow by Vonda Shepard
in case you dont already know, i’m a big big fan of ally mcbeal. vonda doesnt get my vote for the best singer, but listening to her reminds me of the show, and so, i heart this song, albeit not for the longest time. class 95 played it so often then i couldnt stand listening to it after that.

4. Amazed by Lonestar
another case of a lovely song turning un-lovely after repeated plays on air. djs should really learn how to rotate their repertoire a little more. still, this song reminded me most of my eighteen-year-old self weaving down the memory lane.

5. Lass Kiss by Pearl Jam
this song made me sad, yet it’s so catchy i couldnt help humming it all the time.

i dont listen much to the radio anymore. the shalalala doesnt shine anymore. but, why does it all seem like yesterday?

tagged by vale, quirks of me!

1. i only take my hot drinks in mugs or glasses that i deem pretty. i’ve always preferred cold drinks, so it takes a lot more just to convince me to take a hot one. hence, no kopi-tiam hot coffee for me because i dont take a fancy to their cups. a little bourgeois i know. i’m guilty.

2. Still on hot stuff, i dislike soups that are clear. the only soups i drink willingly are those creamy ones, or tomato-based ones like minestrone where i get to dip my bread or crackers in. i love those soups actually. much as i know my mother-in-law brews excellent soups like a typical cantonese, i always try to make sure i eat more at dinner so i can have a excuse to drink less soup. unless it’s her minestrone, which tastes perfect.

3. i have such a phobia of those four-legged creatures that purr that i hate garfield as well. you wont catch me walking alone within two metres of a feline. ever. and if i unfortunately see one right in its eyes, i go around shaking my head to throw that imagery away. my greatest wish since secondary four (that was when the series of unfortunate feline-related events happened) – that all felines be adopted in families that adore them, so there wont be any on the streets to haunt me.

4. in my primary school days, i collected rubber shavings. i like to erase anything and everything just so i can collect the shavings that others cant wait to swipe off their desks. the collection is precious – i ‘fry’ them in my masak-masak wok and serve them as fried noodles to my family.

5. i hate ginger, garlic, onion, leek, spring onion, chinese parsley and the like. i’ll pick out all of them and shove them to my hubby first thing when the food comes, or put them aside so there wont be any accidents of tasting them. when i cook, i’ll slice the garlic or onion so fine i wont be able to bite into them, or so huge i can remove them with ease later. eeks eeks eeks. i still think they are inedible.

6. this is from my hubby. he says i have a ‘unique’ sense of asthetics. i only like country decor. english, american, scandinavian, french, i like them all. so long as it’s country. modern interiors dont appeal to me at all, but i can still take ‘modern country’ with its warm colours and mismatched prints. and i absolutely detest zen. it’s too clean a line, too uncluttered a space. unfortunately, the hubby loves the simplicity. so the current lovenest is a compromise. still too modern, still too sparse for me, but it’s our home with an eclectic mix of our widely different personalities, so it’s still sweet.

i’ll like to think i’m quirky, not weird.

from lil snooze’s site. my wants are endless, and i’m guilty of being the material girl that lies large and not so latent in me.

three things I want for Christmas ::

1. a pasta machine for the hubby – Some things just disappear the moment you decide you want them. so the search continues and you continue to get dried pasta off the shelf. which ain’t that bad if you hadnt tasted his curry fettucine.

2. an oven – i want it so bad, but why is it again that no model seems good enough to sit next to the coffee machine? or big enough for the large french chocolate cake? or cheap enough so i still get to maintain that budgetty streak in me?

3. a wallet – the kind i lusted after in that upmarket shop in chatuchak but was too feeling too much of a scrooge then to spend my baht on. why do i have that raring up of a desire only after i touched down?

Three things I don’t want, ever ::

1. anything bad to befall my family or loved ones – lilsnooze sums it up so perfectly i have to snitch her line. too many loved ones, too much to lose. i cant afford to.

2. trapped together with those evil beings that purr – it’s my biggest weakness for the past ten years of my life, and it’s not about to go away.

3. getting fat – which i so am now. i’m afraid of bumping into people who have seen me at our wedding, for i know my big round face now will remind them of moonface from the faraway tree.

here’s a meme i’ve got to do, so yvonne, this is specially for you! =)

Name five of life’s simple pleasures that you like most, then pick five people to do the same. Try to be original and creative and not use things that someone else has already used:

number one:

i love holding his hands. his thumb would move, slowly and slightly, to caress my thumb. he’d press my thumb down to my index finger, squeeze, just a little, then let go, and caress my thumb again. it’s his simple expression of love that makes this simple act simply magical.

number two:

i love hearing him sing little made-up songs to me. sometimes he’s an entertaining ad-libber, sometimes he’s a romantic composer. he is good at it. free with his narration, creative with his melody. i like to think that they are some kind of shy testimony to our little love story.

number three:

i love taking the first sip of starbucks’ iced peppermint mocha. it’s always cold and always sweet, but never too cold and never too sweet. it gives me two seconds of extreme high, then at least an afterhour of bliss that blends in the perfect way with the christmas lights and yuletide carols.

number four:

i love burrowing into my lavender duvet right after my shower at night. that’s when i can feel my goosebumps de-swell with instant warmth in my little made-up duvet house. it smells of my shower foam. a very good smell to have at night.

number five:

i love blasting budak pantai in my shuffle. it’s lovely reminiscing the cartoon-coloured times we always have at their performances. on good days when no one is nearing me in the delta sports complex carpark, i sing along. sometimes, i’m the lead singer. sometimes i’m the vocal percussionist. once, i was the bassist. always, i cant for the moment to meet the dear one at the station. because i know somewhere sometime on his train, he’ll be listening to the same thing. and we’ll sing together when we meet. and laugh like we always do.

hey you, wanna do one too? :p

1. my mister

2. serene

3. lili

4. brenda

5. jingmei

may you have as many moments of fun as i had!
